This course gives you the opportunity for advanced study in an intellectually lively department with a long tradition of excellent teaching and an international reputation for research. It is focused on three periods of literary history: the Renaissance, the 'long' 19th century, and the 20th/21st century. The fourth module, Research Methods, equips you with the skills needed to complete your Major Project. One of these modules can be replaced by a module from our MA Creative Writing or Publishing (subject to the course leaders' approval).

Finalidad

The MA in English Literature has been designed to meet the needs of several different kinds of student.

It provides development for teachers already in post, enabling them to update their knowledge and take their existing career forwards, or perhaps move into another discipline.

  • It provides the research training necessary to go on to do a PhD, a qualification which has become a requirement for anybody seeking an academic post.
  • It enables international students to obtain a respected higher-level British qualification which will advance their careers back home.

 

  • Renaissance Drama and Cultures of Performance

    This module approaches Renaissance plays and related materials through what can be known of the original staging and printing conventions. Historical study is complemented by a consideration of the production of Renaissance drama in 21st century contexts, such as novel and film adaptations.

  • Re-reading Modernism, Practising Postmodernism
