The MA Education is an award designed for those wishing to develop their expertise and knowledge of educational issues pertaining to schools, further and higher education institutions and other educational settings. This course will facilitate the academic and professional development of educators, researchers, leaders or managers in the field of education, giving them the opportunity to focus on learning, teaching, and/or educational leadership and management. It is aimed at those in the early stages of their education careers, those who have department or institutional management responsibilities and those who wish to continue their full time academic studies in education.

Whether you’re a classroom teacher or in a managerial or leadership role, whether you have a number of years of experience or you’re at the start of your career, studying for the MA Education will make a highly valuable contribution to your continuing professional development and be useful evidence for meeting performance objectives.

Aims

This course is designed to enhance professional skills and career prospects for all students. It provides a relevant continuing professional development opportunity for teachers in the compulsory and post compulsory sectors including NQTs, leaders and managers in a variety of educational institutions; lecturers in further and higher education, inspectors; advisors and consultants and other education professionals.

Please note that you will need to complete 5 of the above modules, including the ‘Educational and Social Research Methodologies’ and the ‘Major Project’ modules. The availability of modules will depend on whether you are a full-time or part-time student and on when you start your course. More information and guidance will be available from your course leader. You’ll be assessed in a range of ways to demonstrate your understanding of each module. Collaborative group work and peer review are key and each module has the equivalent of a 6,000 word written assessment. Usually your Major Project will be a written research report of 14,000 words.
